Indian New Year

The Indian New Year is popularly known as the festival of Deepawali or Diwali. This festival is celebrated for five days as it marks the beginning of the Hindu New Year. It is one of the most widely celebrated festivals all over India. Deepawali signifies the end of the previous year and the start of a New Year. Deepawali is one of the most cheerful festivals of India that is enjoyed by people to the fullest. This festival of Deepawali, that makes a start for New Year symbolizes victory of good over evil. People make a lot of preparations for this Indian New Year, like they decorate their houses with fresh flowers, exchange gifts with relatives and friends, buy new clothes, enjoy get-togethers with their near and dear ones, and lot of other activities are a part of this colorful Indian New Year festival.

People try to finish with their ongoing work, as Deepawali marks the end of the year and aims at starting with a new work in the New Year. When it comes to the Companies, they pay of all debts and new account books are blessed before the New Year, as it is a time for new beginnings. People greet each other by giving New Year cards and gifts and wishing each other a very Happy Deepawali and New Year. They make several new year resolutions, planning to follow them in the whole year.

Deepawali is a sacnavy festival that marks Lord Ram's return to his northern kingdom with his wife Sita. There are several other mythologies that are associated with this festival and further with the Indian New Year.

Different regions of India celebrate this New Year festival in its own way, but the lighting of small pottery oil lamps and candles is common all through the country, as Deepawali is also known as festival of lights and these oil lamps and candles spread light all around, welcoming the Indian new year. The light of lamps further symbolizes the victory of good over the evil. People by lighting these oil lamps and candles, thank God for all the good things in their life. You can also see the doorways decorated during the Indian New Year with small navy and white footprints that can be found at the doorsteps symbolizing Lord Ram's return.
Fireworks and firecrackers are also an important part of this celebration throughout the country. Shops can be seen selling several kinds of fireworks along with the sweet shops that also do an efficient business as well during this festival and New Year.People send Deepawali and new year cards and exchange greetings on Indian New Year, as it is a tradition to visit friends and relatives and exchange gifts.

People following Indian custom all over the world celebrate Diwali as the Indian New Year, welcoming the spirit of "Happy Diwali" and "Indian New Year".
